Girls Volleyball (6-1) rolled their way into the finals of the Classic Bracket of the Lake Highland Prep/Winter Park Invitational this past weekend as the Green wave would go 4-1 over the two day span and finish as the tournament runner-up's to the Deland Bulldogs. In the opening game of the tournament on Friday the Green Wave would top Foundation Academy 2-0 behind the stellar performance of senior captain Bailey Gillespy who put home 10 kills in the contest, while sophomore Talyn Allard would finish off five kills of her own in the Green Wave victory. It was on to the second game of pool play for Father Lopez as the Green Wave would take on the Titusville Terriers in the Friday nightcap, as the green & white would come away with another dominate 2-0 victory. Allard would this time lead the offense with 11 kills in the match, while senior Laurie Mojica would pick up four aces in the match. It was then on to Saturday afternoon for the final game of pool play, where the Green Wave would lock up the number one seed heading into the afternoon bracket play with a 2-0 win over the Lake Gibson Braves. Bailey Gillespy would again lead the way with 6 kills in the contest, while Allard and fellow sophomore Emily White would each have three a piece. Mikayla Prado would have 12 digs from the libero position for the Green Wave in the win. After going a perfect 3-0 in pool play Lopez would join the other top seeds in the Gold/Classic Bracket semi-finals where they would meet the Lakers from Windermere Prep. After dropping the first set 25-23 the Green Wave would rally in games two and three with 25-14 and 15-13 wins to take the overall semi-final contest. No shock here as Bailey Gillespy would again hammer down 13 kills and four aces to lead the offense, while Mikayla Prado would finish with 29 digs. Mia Prado would quarterback the offense beautifully with 25 assists from the setter position in the win. With the semi-finals win behind them the Green Wave set their sights on the overall championship as they would face off with fellow Volusia County foe Deland High School. Lopez would take the first set 25-22, but the Bulldogs would come from behind taking set two (25-16) and three (15-10) to secure the tournament title. Although the Green Wave wouldn't take home the top honor, it was still a fantastic two days for Lopez Volleyball as this group of young ladies continues to set their sights on another post season birth in 2015!
